Auditions
The 2012 Children's Theatre Auditions will be held on
Saturday, April 14th from 12:00pm-4:00pm
Auditions are for both plays and musicals. Please come prepared with the following
-
a photograph of yourself (a school picture or any picture with just you in the shot to help our directors remember what you look like!)
-
an idea of what conflicts you'll have throughout the summer (dance class on tuesdays, family vacation, doctors appointments...etc.)
Auditions are run as an "open call" which means that no appointment is necessary. The only age requirement is that you must be old enough to read.
You may arrive at the theater any time between 12:00 and 4:00pm. Upon arrival in the theater lobby, you will be given an audition form, some blank index cards, and a page full of monologues from each of the plays we'll be producing this summer. On the audition form, we'll ask you to fill out basic contact information, a list of any performance experience you may have (don't worry - first-timers are more than welcome!), and a list of conflicts you will have throughout the summer. We'd also like you to attach a picture of yourself to this form, if you have one, to help our directors remember what you look like after you've left. You'll then be asked to select which plays/musicals you'd like to be considered for, based on your availability and interest. You can then pick a monologue from your sheet to start practicing with - you'll be asked to read it for your audition. Once we've got a group of about 5-10 kids who are ready, we'll send them all in to the theater to audition for all of the directors at the same time (sorry, no parents allowed for this part!). If you're interested in being in a musical, you'll also be asked to sing a little bit of your favorite song (no accompaniment necessary). That's it! You'll hear from a director within a week if you have made the cast of a play or musical. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 412-831-8552.
Remember, volunteering for the Mainstage and Children's Theatre productions is a great way to learn more about the theater and make sure the directors get to know you personally! (not to mention a great way to see the shows for free!) If you are interested in volunteering with ushering, concessions, or selling raffle tickets, please call the theater at 412-831-8552.
